Volleyball Picks Up Second Five Set Win At Crossover

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

INDIANAPOLIS – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team scored its second 3-2 win in as many days, taking down Purdue Northwest in the finale of the Midwest Region Crossover on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers won the first set 27-25, fell 16-25 in the second, then bounced back for a 25-18 win in the third. The Pride won the fourth frame 25-22 but the Panthers notched 12 kills in the fifth set en route to a 15-11 victory.

Sophomore Alexis Young (Gahanna, Ohio) and freshman Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) each had huge matches. Young set a career-high with 24 kills, hitting .340, while tallying 10 digs and seven assists.

Remmetter, meanwhile, recorded 21 kills on a .309 attack percentage and chipped in with 11 digs herself.

Sophomore Ashton Barr (New Castle, Ind.) recorded 49 assists for the second time on the weekend and added 12 digs and seven kills. Freshman Tate Rybarczyk (Avon Lake, Ohio) set a new career-high with 34 digs as well.

The Panthers trailed 21-17 in the opening set before charging back. Kills by Barr and Remmetter and an ace by Rybarczyk evened the game at 23, and Remmetter and Young would close out the set with kills.

ODU would take a 6-1 lead to start the third set, but the Pride eventually drew within 17-15. However, the Panthers countered with a 6-2 run, capped by a solo block by freshman Riley Kizer (Mason, Ohio), and kills by Young and Remmetter again sealed the set in ODU's favor.

After dropping the fourth frame, ODU fell behind 3-0 and 8-5 in the fifth set before storming back. A kill and an ace by Remmetter started a 7-0 run, which then witnessed four straight kills by Young and a block by freshman Trinity Mixon (Cleveland, Ohio) and junior Allie Rutter (Fostoria, Ohio) to put the Panthers in front 12-8. Another kill by Mixon and two more by Young closed out the match for ODU.

ODU hit .254 in the match, racking up 69 kills, as Rutter and Kizer added seven kills apiece.

The victory helped ODU bounce back from a 3-0 (17-25, 22-25, 16-25) setback to Parkside earlier in the day.

Remmetter led the Panthers with eight kills and a .240 hitting percentage, but the Panthers finished with a .114 clip as a team in the loss.

Barr had 24 assists and 11 digs and Rybarczyk finished with 12 digs to lead ODU.

The Panthers were one of just two G-MAC schools to win two matches in the crossover this season.

Ohio Dominican (4-19) returns home to host Trevecca at 7 p.m. Friday in Alumni Hall.
