Box Score AURORA, Ill. — Missouri S&T topped Ohio Dominican's volleyball team by a final tally of 3-0 on Friday afternoon at the Midwest Region Crossover.
The Miners won the first set by a narrow, 25-23 margin and took sets two and three by scores of 25-15 and 25-20.
Ohio Dominican (3-16, 2-7 G-MAC) hit a season-best percentage of .214 and was led by freshman Alexis Young (Gahanna, Ohio), who notched 10 kills and five digs, marking her fifth match this year with a double-digit kill total. Junior Anna Ficker (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Panthers in digs with 16, while freshman Ashton Barr (New Castle, Indiana) recorded 29 assists for ODU.
ODU opened each of the three sets with early 3-1 leads. Trailing 21-17 in the first set, the Panthers went on a 6-3 run to cut their deficit to just 24-23, but a service error by the Panthers allowed the Miners to take the first set, 25-23.
Trailing 2-0 in the match and 22-19 in the third set, Young recorded a kill to cut ODU's deficit to just 22-20. But Missouri S&T took each of the next three points, winning the set 25-20 to take the match.
Ohio Dominican continues competition in the Midwest Region Crossover tomorrow with matches against William Jewell at 10 a.m. CDT and Lake Superior State at 4 p.m. CDT.
