Five First Half Goals Power Men's Soccer To 6-1 Win Over Walsh

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two goals in the first 3:54 and five goals in the first half were plenty for the Ohio Dominican men's soccer team in its 6-1 victory against Walsh on Wednesday night at Panther Stadium.

Six goals mark the most goals scored by an Ohio Dominican men's soccer team since September 19, 2008, when the Panthers defeated Shawnee State, 9-0. The match also marked the largest margin of victory for Ohio Dominican since a 5-0 win over Northwood on September 28, 2012.

The Panthers (2-1-0, 2-0-0 GLIAC) outshot Walsh (3-2-0, 1-2-0 GLIAC) 18-15 overall and held a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal, converting them into six goals.

ODU was led by sophomore Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, Ohio), whose first goals of the season came by way of a hat trick, scoring two in the first half and one in the second.

Senior Michael Mueller (Aurora, Illinois) scored his second goal of the year, while senior Michael Fragoulis (Chios, Greece) and freshman Matthew Pardi (Worthington, Ohio) found the back of the net for their first goals of 2016.

Junior goalkeeper Robby Frye (Cincinnati, Ohio) went all 90 minutes between the posts in his second start of the year, recording three saves and allowing just one goal.

The Panthers got off to a hot start, with Pardi scoring just one minute and 55 seconds into the match after failed attempts to clear the box by Walsh, putting ODU in front, 1-0.

Just moments later, Kasprzak scored from the top left side of the box on an impressive shot that found the back of the net, increasing the ODU advantage to 2-0 just 3:54 into the game.

At the 29:23 mark, Kasprzak scored once again, this time from the right side of the box on assists from senior Andrew Schwall (Gahanna, Ohio) and freshman Noah Kiser (Mason, Ohio) to build the Panther lead to 3-0.

Less than a minute later, Fragoulis got in on the action with a goal at the 30:09 mark assisted by senior Brent Wahle (Pataskala, Ohio) to put the Panthers up 4-0. A goal at the 43:25 mark by Mueller with an assist from Fragoulis gave the Panthers a 5-0 lead, which they carried into halftime.

In the second half, Kasprzak completed the hat trick, scoring from the middle of the box on an assist from sophomore Jorge Aldalla (Whitehall, Ohio) and Pardi at the 61:52 mark to put Ohio Dominican up 6-0. The Panthers allowed just one goal for the remainder of the game, earning the victory, 6-1.

The Panthers are 2-1 overall and 2-0 in GLIAC play to begin 2016, with their only loss coming at the hands of No. 16 Urbana, 2-1 on September 1. Ohio Dominican has also won five of its last six matches dating back to last season.

ODU will look to build off its momentum as it prepares for its first road tests of the season at Saginaw Valley State on Friday and No. 11 Northwood on Sunday.
