Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Jackie Oestreich (Brighton, Mich.) surpassed 1,000 career kills, but Ohio Dominican's volleyball team dropped a four set match to visiting Ferris State on Saturday evening (16-25, 19-25, 25-21, 22-25) in GLIAC play from Alumni Hall.
Oestreich finished with 12 kills to give her 1,005 in her career. Earlier this season, teammate Tory Thompson (Quincy, Ohio) also surpassed the 1,000 career kill mark.
The Panthers struggled to get into a rhythm offensively in the first two sets as Ferris State led both of them wire-to-wire. ODU hit just .022 in the opening frame, compared to .234 for the Bulldogs, and the Panthers hit .091 in the second frame while Ferris State hit at a .216 clip.
ODU rebounded in the third set as a 7-1 run helped give the Panthers an 8-4 lead early. Up 20-18 later on, Oestreich had a kill, and Thompson and sophomore Kelly Nadler (Leipsic, Ohio) teamed up on a block to stretch the lead back to four. Nadler's kill sealed the set in ODU's favor as the Panthers racked up 15 kills and hit .213 in the frame.
The Panthers carried that momentum into the fourth set and led 9-5 early before Ferris answered and took its first lead at 11-10. The lead changed hands over the middle of the set, with ODU regaining a two-point edge at 20-18, but the Bulldogs scored the next six points to help pull away with the win.
Thompson notched 18 kills and 22 digs while Nadler tallied 16 kills. Senior Taylor Foster (Ida, Mich.) set a career high with 30 digs, sophomore Jordan Jaeckin (Olmsted Falls, Ohio) had a double-double with 18 assists and 13 digs, and freshman Bailey Line (Westerville, Ohio) recorded 24 assists.
Ohio Dominican remains at home when the Panthers take on Saginaw Valley at 7 p.m. Friday in Alumni Hall.
