Box Score NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Behind 18 kills and a .720 attack percentage from junior Jackie Oestreich (Brighton, Mich.), Ohio Dominican's volleyball team swept its second straight GLIAC match to start conference play, taking down Walsh 3-0 (25-9, 25-22, 25-16) Saturday evening.
The Panthers (7-4, 2-0 GLIAC) hit .376 in the match after hitting what was a season-best .347 in a sweep over Malone last night. Freshman Kelly Nadler (Leipsic, Ohio) hit .333 with seven kills and senior Tory Thompson (Quincy, Ohio) added six kills.
Sophomore Ashlin Aiken (Onsted, Mich.) led ODU with 17 assists and senior Kelsey Fortney (Lorain, Ohio) added 16 helpers. Thompson paced a trio of Panthers in double figures in digs with 16, while freshman Anna Ficker (Cincinnati, Ohio) totaled 14 digs.
Senior Courtney Braun (Hilliard, Ohio) led the Panthers with four total blocks as ODU limited the Cavaliers (4-6, 0-2 GLIAC) to a .118 hitting percentage.
For a second straight night, ODU was never tied and never trailed in any set. The Panthers hit at an impressive .500 clip in the opening frame with 13 kills and no errors in 26 attempts. The offensive attack continued in the third set with 17 kills and a .318 attack percentage, and ODU closed it out with 16 kills and a .359 hitting percentage in the third frame.
ODU finished with just five hitting errors, its lowest total since also having five in a September, 2014 win over Walsh.
The Panthers play their home opener at 7 p.m. Friday night in Alumni Hall against Wayne State.
