Men's Soccer Closes Season With Third Consecutive Victory

Box Score

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican men's soccer team scored three goals in the first half as they held on to defeat Lake Erie on the road 3-2, on Friday afternoon.

The Panthers (3-11-2, 3-10-1 GLIAC) closed out their season with three consecutive victories in the GLIAC, outscoring opponents 7-2 during that stretch.

ODU has now scored three goals in a half in two of the last three matches. Nearly three years ago to the date, October 31, 2012, was the last time the Panthers scored three goals in the first half of a match.

In their final game of their careers at ODU, seniors Caleb Wilson (Reynoldsburg, OH) and Justin Alexander (Reynoldsburg, OH) each shined. Wilson scored the first goal of the match, and his second this season off a free kick in just two minutes in. Alexander made three saves as he earned his 11th career victory as the starting goalkeeper.

Junior Michael Fragoulis (Chios, OH) gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead in the fifth minute off a pass from classmate Andrew Schwall (Gahanna, OH). This was the second time this season that ODU scored two goals in the opening six minutes of the match against Lake Erie.

The Storm (7-8-1, 7-6-1 GLIAC) answered with a goal at 39:01, but less than 40 seconds before halftime, the Panthers received a goal from freshman Tyler Thomas (Granville, OH) off a rebounded shot.

Lake Erie cut into the ODU lead in the 51st minute, and despite outshooting the Panthers 4-2 in the second half, were unable to find an equalizer, as the Black and Gold secured the victory.

For the match, ODU would be outshot 9-6, but the Panthers, who had every attempt come on goal, held a 6-5 advantage in the category. Fragoulis was the lone Panther to record multiple shot attempts with two, while Thomas, Wilson, freshman Kyler Splunge (Canal Winchester, OH) and sophomore Kyle Baker (Newark, OH) each pitched in one shot.

The Storm ended the match with an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks, while each team committed over 10 fouls.

Freshman Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, OH) ended the season as the leading goal scorer and point recorder for the Panthers with five scores and 11 total points. Fragoulis and Wilson were the other two players for ODU to record multiple goals on the year. Schwall ends the season with two assists to lead the team.
