Volleyball Falls in Three to #18 Lakers

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team suffered its first home blemish in 2014 with a 3-0 (19-25, 17-25, 14-25) setback against No. 18 Grand Valley State in a GLIAC match in Alumni Hall Friday night.

With the loss, the Panthers fell to 6-6 (4-2 GLIAC), while the Lakers improved to 8-2 (6-0 GLIAC).

ODU struggled to get in system all night, finishing with just 24 kills and 26 attack errors. The Panthers also managed just one ace and had seven service errors, while the Lakers hit .188 as a team.

Senior Lauren Kraemer (Kettering, Ohio) finished with seven kills and freshman Ciara Ralston (Findlay, Ohio) had five kills in 17 swings. Junior Kelsey Fortney (Lorain, Ohio) had 11 assists and 13 digs to lead ODU in those categories.

The first set was close early. ODU trailed by a count of 8-7 and hung around throughout the middle part of the frame, trailing 18-16 after a termination from junior Tory Thompson (Quincy, Ohio). The Lakers scored the next three points to pull away and take the set, though.

ODU trailed 10-8 in the second set, but a 10-3 Lakers run put the guests in control of the set and match. In the third frame, another 10-8 Laker lead grew to 24-10 on a 14-2 run.

Ohio Dominican returns to action at 2 p.m. Saturday in Alumni Hall against No. 14 Ferris State.
