Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team completed the home weekend sweep after a 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-22) victory over Lake Superior State in Alumni Hall on Saturday.
The Panthers (8-7, 6-3 GLIAC) have now won two consecutive GLIAC matches. With the loss the Lakers fall to 2-12 overall and 1-8 in the GLIAC.
Senior Caitlin Kusan (Westerville, OH) led the attack for the Panthers with 15 kills, as she recorded a hitting percentage of .344. Senior Lauren Kraemer (Kettering, OH) charted nine kills of her own.
Overall, the Panthers hit .207 while holding the Lakers to a .025 hitting percentage. ODU also had an 8-0 advantage in blocks.
Senior Lauren Rindler (Rossburg, OH) had a team high 17 digs, while junior Kelsey Fortney (Lorain, OH) led the Panthers with 20 assists.
ODU imposed their will early as they scored the six of the first eight points of the match to take a 6-2 lead in the opening set. LSSU used an 8-3 run to take a 10-9 their first lead of the match. The Panthers closed out set one with a 16-5 run capped off with a kill from Kraemer.
It was the Lakers who jumped out to an early lead in the second set as they took a 5-1 lead. The Panthers were able to tie the score 9-9 after a kill from sophomore Taylor Foster (Ida, MI). The set came down to the wire with neither team able to gain more than a three point advantage. A service error by the Lakers gave ODU a 2-0 set lead.
In the third set, the Black and Gold jumped out to their largest lead after a kill from Kraemer made the score 13-9. The Lakers, though, were able to climb back into the match and take a 21-19 lead late in the set. A block from junior Tory Thompson (Quincy, OH) gave ODU a 22-21 advantage, one which they did not surrender.
The Panthers will be on the road next weekend as they travel to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to face Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech. ODU and NMU will square off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10.
