Box Score FINDLAY, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team hung tough in the first half but fell 67-37 at Findlay Thursday in GLIAC South Division action.
With the setback, ODU dropped to 4-8 (1-8 GLIAC), while the Oilers improved to 10-3 (7-2).
The Oilers went on an 10-0 run to go in front 16-4 with 11:34 to play. A free throw by freshman guard Rachael Torey (Sterling Heights, Mich.) at the 10:07 mark stopped the scoring drought, but Findlay would push its lead to 24-7 with 6:18 left.
The Panthers answered with a surge of their own, as freshman forward Morgan Cnudde (Corunna, Mich.) drilled a three from the right wing, classmate Melissa Scherpenberg (Cincinnati, Ohio) made a layup made it 29-16, and Torey buried a three from the left wing to bring ODU to within 29-19 with just over a minute left in the first half. However, the Oilers hit consecutive threes to take a 35-19 advantage at the break.
Cnudde hit a triple early in the second half to get the Panthers to within 35-22, but Findlay scored 18 of the next 23 points to pull away.
Scherpenberg had 12 points and 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season, while Cnudde had a season-best nine points. Freshman forward Alex Hallenbeck (St. Johns, Mich.) added seven rebounds.
Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team will take on Hillsdale at 3 p.m. Saturday in a GLIAC matchup.
