Box Score HILLSDALE, MIch. – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team was limited to 31 kills and an .049 attack percentage as the Panthers fell 3-1 (15-25, 25-19, 25-12, 25-12) to host Hillsdale Friday night in GLIAC action.
With the setback, ODU dropped to 5-5 (1-2 GLIAC), while the Chargers improved to 3-8 (2-1 GLIAC).
Freshman Tory Thompson (Quincy, Ohio) had 10 kills to lead the Panthers, while sophomore Caitlin Kusan (Westerville, Ohio) had seven kills and hit a match-high .429.
Freshman Darby Slavin (Columbus, Ohio) led all players with 24 assists, and sophomore Bailey Barker (Muncie, Ind.) tallied 11 digs. Thompson finished with 10 digs as well to complete the double-double.
In the opening set, the Panthers and Chargers were knotted at eight apiece, but Hillsdale rattled off six straight points to go in front 14-8 and pull away with the 25-15 victory. ODU hit just .037 in the frame.
The Panthers made their run in the second set. Leading 9-8, freshman Kelsey Barker (Muncie, Ind.) had a pair of kills, while Kusan and Slavin added kills as ODU went in front 13-8. The lead stretched to seven on a Slavin ace to make it 19-12, and the Panthers – who finished with 15 kills and hit .303 -- cruised to a 25-19 victory.
The host Chargers played strong in the third set, though, using a 13-3 run to grab control of the set, and started the fourth set on an 8-0 run to close out the match. ODU had 15 attack errors and just 10 kills combined in the two sets.
The Panthers remain on the road for a 4 p.m. matchup against Northwood on Saturday.
