Chargers Rally Late for Senior Day Win Over ODU

Box Score

HILLSDALE, Mich. – Looking to snap a 10-game road slide, Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team was in position for the upset Thursday evening at Hillsdale (Mich.), however shooting woes haunted the Panthers down the stretch as the Chargers picked up the 67-57 Senior Day victory.

Consecutive lay-ins by sophomore Katelyn Stuckey (Millersburg, OH) and senior Abby Glover (Centerville, OH) capped a 7-0 run that put ODU ahead 52-48 with 7:29 to play in the game. Unfortunately, the Panthers could only muster five free throws over the final minutes as Hillsdale closed with 19 of the final 24 points, hitting 7-of-10 from the floor.

The Chargers finished the day 26-of-58 (44.8 percent), including 16-of-32 in the deciding second, and remain alive for a spot in the GLIAC tournament at 9-8 and 13-11 overall, while the Panthers shot below 40 percent for the fourth straight contest, hitting 18-of-49 (36.7 percent) overall.

After an ODU basket to start the second, Hillsdale took its first lead at the 17:02 mark and extended it to 39-33 with 14:57 remaining as part of an 11-1 run. The Panthers came back to knot the game for the second time at 45-45 with a 12-6 swing that saw four players score, including five points from freshman Paige Stought (Pickerington, OH).

Despite lethargic starts on offense by both teams, ODU worked its way to a 9-2 lead 5:37 into the game and later grabbed a 15-8 edge at the 11:44 mark as the Panthers knocked down three of their first six three-point attempts.

ODU (6-18, 2-16 GLIAC) continued to lead throughout the first half, posting leads of 26-18 and later 30-23 with 1:51 left as Stuckey finished back-to-back baskets inside. The Chargers, led by Chelsea Harrison's 19 points, scored the final five points of the half as the Panthers took the two-point lead into the break.

Stought finished with a season-best 12 points in 14 minutes off the bench for ODU, connecting on 4-of-5 shots and matching her previous high with two triples. Stuckey added 10, while Glover tallied nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Glover's third straight game and 11th of the year with double figures on the glass moved her ahead of former teammate Summer Hale for ninth all-time in ODU history with 631 career boards.

Harrison eclipsed her previous career-high of 30 points set in last week's meeting with 33 points tonight on 12-of-22 shooting, including a game-high five treys to become the school's career leader for made three-point field goals with 234. Lea Jones chipped in 11 points and collected a team-best nine rebounds.

The women return home for their final two games of the season, beginning with a non-conference matchup with former AMC foe Urbana at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
