Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio - A late first half spark by Findlay that continued into the second helped lift the Oilers past Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team, 85-64, on Saturday afternoon's Pink Wave Day at Alumni Hall.
After back-to-back three pointers by freshman Kacee Hockenberry (Haviland, OH) gave the Panthers their largest lead of the day at 22-14 with 5:34 to go in the first, Findlay got its offense on track, hitting 10-of-16 shots to close the half as part of a 21-4 rally for the 35-26 halftime advantage.
The Oilers (13-10, 7-9 GLIAC) carried the momentum swing over into the second, shooting 56.7 percent (17-of-30) en route to a 47.5 percent (29-of-61) effort on the afternoon. The Panthers were able to close within 11 twice in the final eight minutes, but key baskets and notable free throw shooting helped keep ODU at bay. Findlay finished the game 22-of-24 (91.7 percent) at the charity stripe, including 13-of-14 in the second.
Senior Meredith Fox (Springboro, OH) was the top scorer for ODU (6-17, 2-15 GLIAC) with 14, while Hockenberry reached double figures for the fourth time in six contests with 11. Senior Abby Glover (Centerville, OH) collected a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with six points, three assists, two steals and one block. The Panthers won the rebounding battle for the second straight game, outrebounding the Oilers 41-31, including 19 on the offensive glass.
Lacey Kessler led a 48-point Findlay bench effort with a game-high 23, going 6-of-9 from the floor and 11-of-11 at the stripe. Carlay Stahl also added 14 off the bench, while starter Kayla Brown finished with 16.
The women head to Hillsdale (Mich.) next Thursday, Feb. 16 for a 5:30 p.m. start in its lone game of the week and final road contest of the year.
