Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican men's soccer team defeated the Walsh Cavaliers on Sunday 3-1 in a rainy and windy GLIAC contest at Panther Field.
It was ODU's second straight win, as they improved to 8-4-1 overall and 7-3 in GLIAC play. The win tied the Panthers with Notre Dame (Ohio) for the GLIAC South Division lead.
Sophomore Jacob Szabo (Worthington, Ohio) kicked off the scoring in the second minute with assists from freshman Caleb Wilson (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and senior Casey Weddle (Cincinnati, Ohio).
It was Szabo's second goal of the season on the first shot of the game for the Panthers.
The Cavaliers tied the game in the 19th minute with a header goal by Jordan Semple off a cross by Brock Sutek.
However, the tie would not stand for long as Wilson scored the Panthers' second goal of the game in the 37th minute with a header off a corner kick from Weddle, giving ODU a 2-1 lead. It was Wilson's first goal of the season.
The Panthers extended their lead to 3-1 in the 83rd minute as senior Colby Catlett (Hilliard, Ohio) stole the ball from the Walsh defender and dribbled down the field before getting past the goal keeper to kick it into the open net.
ODU outshot the Cavaliers by a final count of 21-12.
The Panthers continue their season Tuesday with a non-conference game at Urbana. The game starts at 4:00 p.m.
