Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision at Wayne State

Box Score

DETROIT – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team suffered its second straight road sweep, falling 3-0 (19-25, 21-25, 22-25) at Wayne State Saturday afternoon in GLIAC action.

With the setback, ODU dropped to 6-3 (1-3 GLIAC), while the Warriors improved to 3-4 (2-1 GLIAC).

The Panthers fell behind 15-10 in the opening set but came back with three straight points, taking advantage of a Rachel Billing (Anna, Ohio) kill and a pair of Warrior errors to make it 15-13. ODU hung within three points at 18-15 on a kill by Tara Winner (Versailles, Ohio) but could get no closer as WSU closed out the set by scoring seven of the final 11 points.

ODU again benefited from several Wayne State errors in the second set and were even with the Warriors at 10 before a 4-0 WSU burst created some separation. Kills by Billing and Emily Post (St. Henry, Ohio) brought ODU to within a point at 16-15, and Winner's kill made it 18-17. Wayne State, though, held on to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

A strong start to the third set had ODU playing with a lead for the first time this weekend, as the Panthers jumped to a 6-2 advantage behind kills from Billing, Winner and Bailey Barker (Muncie, Ind.). Wayne State bounced back with a 7-1 run and led 9-7, and ODU tied it at nine after a Caitlin Kusan (Westerville, Ohio) kill and a block by Kusan and Billing.

The Warriors scored the next five points to seemingly take control, but the Panthers had a rally of their own, tying the set at 17 as Billing rattled off three kills in a four point stretch to knot the game. WSU answered with three consecutive points, and after a block by Winner and Post and a Winner kill made it 20-19, WSU closed the match with five of the next eight points.

Billing led the Panthers with 10 kills and Winner tallied eight kills. Kelsey Snyder (Macomb, Mich.) finished with 17 assists and Stacy Rogg (Cincinnati, Ohio) led ODU with 17 digs.

The Panthers hit .174 for the match, while WSU finished with a .215 attack percentage.

Ohio Dominican completes its roadtrip this weekend with a 2 p.m. match at Findlay on Sunday.
