Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team led throughout the majority of Saturday afternoon's game against Lake Erie at Alumni Hall, but a strong surge midway through the second half gave the Storm the come-from-behind 68-67 win.
With the win, the Storm snapped a 14-game losing streak, collecting their first win since Dec. 2 and improving to 3-16 and 2-11 in the GLIAC. ODU, losers of two straight, falls to 5-15 and 3-11 in conference play.
Christina Pentaudi (Fr./Dayton, OH) lined up a three-pointer with 11:57 remaining in the second half as the Panthers matched their largest lead of the game, 46-35. Lake Erie, ignited by back-to-back buckets by Katelyn Prince, stormed back to pull within one, 46-45, with a 10-0 run in a 1:43 span with four straight field goals and a pair of Prince free throws.
The Storm continued the momentum, extending the scoring run to 19-4 and taking a 54-50 advantage with a Jen Caiola triple at the 7:09 mark. The Panthers got within one on two occasions with under five to play, but each time Lake Erie was able to push the lead back out to four. After a Summer Hale (Sr./Galena, OH) layup closed the gap to 66-64, Britt Busson hit a free throw with 27 seconds, but on the Panthers' ensuing possession, Caiola picked off an errant pass and hit the front end of a pair of free throws to seal the victory. Tracy Snider (Jr./Lancaster, OH) nailed a deep trey as time expired for the final tally.
ODU had one of their hottest starts to a game this season, hitting seven of their first 10 shots over the opening 5:35 in building a 14-8 advantage. The Panthers stretched the lead to 28-17 with an 11-4 run with just under five to play in the half, however after connecting on 11-of-22 over the first 13:18, ODU closed the half hitting just two of their final 10 shots and allowing the Storm to close within 31-24 at the break.
The Panthers shot 40.0 percent (24-of-60) overall for the third straight game, led by Abby Glover (Jr./Centerville, OH) with game-highs of 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting and 14 rebounds. The 14 boards matches her career high she set against Johnson and Wales last February, while her 20 points is the most by a Panther this season. Hale finished with 13, while Snider reached double figures off the bench for the third time in the last four games with 12.
Caiola led the Storm with 14 points, while Busson added 11.
ODU continues South Division play next Thursday, Feb. 10 as the Panthers head to Hillsdale (Mich.) for an 8 p.m. tip with the Chargers.
