Panthers Score 3-1 Win at Michigan Tech

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Behind 21 kills from senior Rachel Billing (Anna, Ohio), Ohio Dominican's volleyball team capped off its road trip to the Upper Peninsula with a 3-1 (26-28, 25-19, 25-19, 25-21) win over Michigan Tech on Saturday in GLIAC action.

With the victory, the Panthers moved to 10-7 on the season and 4-6 in the GLIAC, while the Huskies dropped to 2-13 (0-10 GLIAC).

Billing tallied her 21 kills on 38 swings, matching a season-high in terminations. Kristy Birkemeier (Columbus Grove, Ohio) had 12 kills and Brianna Reder (Maineville, Ohio) and Tara Winner (Versailles, Ohio) both had eight for the Panthers, who hit .221 for the match while holding Michigan Tech to a .148 attack percentage.

Kelsey Snyder (Macomb, Mich.) tallied 37 assists and Stacy Rogg (Cincinnati, Ohio) had 18 digs to the pace the defense, while Billing notched a double-double with her 15 digs.

The host Huskies took a tightly contested that featured eight ties and five lead changes. ODU battled back from a 24-21 deficit, scoring four straight to take a 25-24 lead on a pair of Billing kills and an ace by Caitlin Kusan. MTU, though, responded and tied the game at 25, then scored the final three points to claim the 28-26 win.

ODU took control early in the second set and opened up a 20-14 lead on Billing's kill. The Huskies chipped away with five of the next six points, but ODU closed the set with the final four points.

The Panthers jumped to a 5-1 lead in the third set and never trailed in the frame, and ODU jumped in front early in the fourth set and held on for the win.

Ohio Dominican returns to action next weekend at the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament on Friday and Saturday. A full schedule will be released soon.
