Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio – Ohio Domincan's men's soccer team wrapped up its three-game conference road swing with a hard-fought 2-2 draw in double overtime against Tiffin at Paradiso Field on Thursday evening.
With the draw, ODU collects one point to remain at the top of the GLIAC standings at 4-2-3, while moving to 5-4-3 overall. The Dragons, now 6-4-2 on the season, move to 3-3-2 in the conference. The extra sessions brings the Panthers single-season record of overtime contest to eight, including seven in their last eight games.
The teams appeared headed to a scoreless deadlock at the break until junior Andrew Edler (Hilliard, OH) notched his first score of the year in the 43rd minute. Edler sent a low straight-on shot 10 yards away to the right side of the goal off a cross through traffic from the near right wing by freshman Trevor Gates (Gahanna, OH).
Tiffin found the equalizer 3:39 into the second as Ashton Campbell one-timed a shot to the lower left corner off a pass from Nick Kutch.
ODU quickly reclaimed the lead less than 12 minutes later at the 60:01 mark as Edler ripped a left-footed shot to the upper left 90 from the far right wing three yards outside the box.
Just 4:49 later, the Dragons tied the game at 2-2 as Pierre DePauw snuck open on the far post and put home a corner by Michael O'Neill.
The Panthers placed 15 of their 24 shot on target, including a near game-winning breakaway score by junior Tyler Huerkamp (Milford, OH) midway through the first overtime that Tiffin keeper Jeremy Ashley denied with a highlight reel save.
Making his first career start in goal since joining the team earlier this week, senior Andrew Jones (Worthington, OH) turned away four shots, including a pair of key game-savers in the final overtime session.
With its road swing complete, ODU returns home at 4:30 p.m. this Sunday, Oct. 16 to battle Findlay in its annual Pink Day game in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
