Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Ohio Dominican women's basketball team collected their first road win of the season Saturday afternoon, pulling away in the closing minutes to secure a 65-50 defeat of GLIAC South Division rival Lake Erie in Painesville.
With their largest scoring output of the season, the Panthers improve to 3-10 overall and 2-6 in GLIAC play, while the Storm behind 17-of-62 shooting (27.4 percent) and losers of seven straight, fall to 2-9 and 1-4.
ODU went up nine on three different occasions in the latter part of the second half, the last coming on an Abby Glover (Jr./Centerville, OH) layup with 5:44 left to play, making the score 54-45. Lake Erie closed within five, 55-50 with 3:17 left, but the Panthers scored the final 10 points of the game to secure their largest margin of victory this season.
After ODU hit just 1-of-9 shots to start the second half, Rasor and Summer Hale (Sr./Galena, OH) combined for an 11-0 run to give the Panthers a 44-36 lead with 10:28 left in the game. Rasor connected on her third and fourth treys of the game, while Hale added an old-fashioned three-point play and two free throws.
With the Storm leading 7-4, 2:33 into the game, Katy Rasor (Jr./Grove City, OH) swung the lead back into the Panthers' favor, 12-7 at the 13:39 mark, with eight straight points off the bench behind back-to-back three-pointers and two free throws in just over a minute span.
An 11-2 run by Lake Erie put them back on top, 18-14 with 10:26 left in the first, but ODU, ignited by two triples and a jumper from Tracy Snider (Jr./Lancaster, OH) went on a 13-2 run to reclaim the lead, 27-20, their largest of the half with 2:46 left. Three missed shots and two turnovers allowed the Storm to rattle off 10 unanswered points and go back up 30-27, but following a timeout, Tenia Scarver (So./Xenia, OH) went three-quarters court with 4.4 seconds remaining for the lay-in, sending the Panthers to the locker room down just 30-29 at the break.
Hale finished with her second double-double of the season with a season-high 17 points on 10-of-11 free throw shooting and 10 rebounds. Rasor finished with 14 points, going 4-of-7 behind the arc before leaving the game with a head injury. Glover reached double figures for the sixth time in the last seven games with 11, while Snider added 10. Melissa Hersey (Sr./West Chester, OH) pulled down a season high seven boards to go along with a game-high eight assists.
Jen Caiola was the lone Lake Erie player in double figures with a game-high 19 points. Leading scorer Stephanie Rogers was held to just three points and 1-of-6 shooting after entering the game averaging nearly 15 points per contest.
Next up for ODU is a road trip to former AMC rival, Urbana, next Wednesday, Jan. 12 for a 6 p.m. non-conference tip-off against the Blue Knights.
