Offensive Struggles Send Timberwolves Past Panthers

Box Score

MIDLAND, Mich. – Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team held Northwood to 26 first half points Thursday evening, but 10 points on 3-of-29 shooting, including 0-of-11 on three-pointers by the Panthers proved too much to overcome as the Timberwolves snapped ODU's two-game road win streak, 59-37.

With their lowest scoring output of the season, the Panthers fall to 4-11 and 2-7 in GLIAC play, while Northwood improves to 7-8 and 3-6.

Despite holding the Timberwolves to 19-of-55 (35 percent) shooting for the game, including 5-of-17 (29 percent) from behind the arc and forcing 14 turnovers, ODU could never recover from a season-low 10 first half points.

Both teams struggled to generate much offense from the opening tip, but the Timberwolves were able to grab a 7-0 lead 4:24 into the game. The score remained until the 12:24 mark when a layup by Tenia Scarver (So./Xenia, OH) finally got the Panthers on the board. ODU's offensive woes continued as they missed on their next 15 shot attempts, allowing Northwood to extend their lead 24-6 with just under two to play. Tracy Snider (Jr./Lancaster, OH) provided the Panthers with a small spark before intermission, hitting back-to-back jumpers in the final minute as ODU entered the break trailing 26-10.

The Panthers and Timberwolves traded baskets to start the second half, but despite making 10 more field goals than in the first, including 2-of-5 on three-pointers, ODU would get no closer than 16 points the rest of the way as Northwood cruised to the their second home victory of the season, snapping a four-game home skid.

Christina Pentaudi (Fr./Dayton, OH) was the lone Panther in double figures with 11 points off the bench. Summer Hale (Sr./Galena, OH) finished with a game-high nine rebounds.

Megan Gonta led Northwood with 12 points, hitting 5-of-6 from the free throw line, while GLIAC leading scorer, Pam Wilson, was held to 11 and Savannah Stedman added 10. Brittany Gibson finished with four points, but led the team with eight rebounds, eight assists and six steals. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 16-of-18 (89 percent) from the charity stripe, including a perfect 11-of-11 in the opening half.

The Panthers return home this Saturday, Jan. 22 as South Division foe, Wayne State, visits Alumni Hall for a 3 p.m. start.
