Box Score FINDLAY, Ohio - Not to be outdone by their women counterparts earlier in the day, the Ohio Dominican men's soccer team scored three second half goals of their own and withstood a late Oiler rally to post a 3-2 victory late Sunday afternoon; the second ODU come-from-behind road victory of the day.
Findlay got on the scoring going first as Shane McGee scored off a deflection into the top right corner of the net in the 24th minute. Despite outshooting the Oilers 7-5 and posting a 4-0 advantage on corner kicks in the first half, the Panthers entered the intermission trailing 1-0.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Tyler Huerkamp (So./Loveland, OH) connected on a header off a corner from classmate Justin Wheeler (So./Gahanna, OH) for his first collegiate score, knotting the score at 1-1.
ODU continued to apply pressure and at the 65:05 mark, Casey Weddle (So./Cincinnati, OH) found Felix Darko (Jr./Reynoldsburg, OH) who beat the keeper to the right side for his team leading third score of the season.
In the 75th minute, the Panthers extended the lead to 3-1 as senior Pat McGrath (Cincinnati, OH) found freshman Sean Lipps (Gahanna, OH;pictured) in the open field.
Lipps' first collegiate goal proved to be the game winner as Findlay cut the deficit to one with just over three minutes remaining when Mate Farkas beat keeper Tyler Gleason (Sr./Grove City, OH) on the right side. The Oilers would not get another shot off however, as ODU hung on for the 3-2 decision, improving to 6-1-0 and 5-1-0 in the GLIAC and running their road win streak to five games.
For the game, the Panthers outshot the Oilers 21-13, including 14-8 in the second half, while finishing with a 6-1 advantage on corners. Gleason finished with six saves in goal, bumping his season total to 31. Through seven games this season, he has a 0.86 goals against average and a 0.838 save percentage, with three shutouts.
ODU steps out of GLIAC play this week for a couple non-conference road games, taking on former AMC foe Urbana at 4 p.m.on Wednesday, Sept. 29, before traveling to NCAA Division III No. 16 Ohio Wesleyan for a 7 p.m. start on Saturday, Oct. 2. Findlay hits the road to take on Tiffin at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3.
