COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team, coming off four straight loses, made a statement Tuesday night as they defeated the Otterbein Cardinals, 3-1. The Panthers bounced back to hand the Cardinals their second loss of the season at the Rike Center on the campus of Otterbein College .
Ohio Dominican didn't waste any time jumping all over the host with a 25-17 victory in game one. The Cardinals answered with a come from behind victory of their own in game two, but back-to-back wins by the Panthers solidified the road win.
Middle hitter Shannon Nadler (Fr., Leipsic, OH; pictured) led the attack with 11 kills in 27 chances for a team high .222 hitting percentage. Rachel Billing (Jr., Anna, OH) also finished with 11 kills and 15 digs in the victory for the Panthers.
Defensively, the Panthers combined for 95 digs and 13 blocks as they controled the net versus the one loss Cardinals. Elyse Mongillo (Jr., Columbiana, OH) recorded 18 digs for the Panthers, while Kristy Birkemeier (Fr., Columbus Grove, OH) added five blocks. Summer Hale (Jr., Galena, OH) once again led the Panthers with 26 assists.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 9-7 on the year, while Otterbein falls to 13-2. ODU will return to action on Thursday, September 24th as they travel to Wheeling, West Virginia to take on Wheeling Jesuit University. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
