COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team faced off against its first ranked opponent of the 2010 season and fell in three sets to visiting Hillsdale (Mich.), 25-16, 25-23, 25-20, Saturday in a GLIAC match in Alumni Hall.

The Chargers, ranked No. 19 in the latest AVCA poll, hit .304 for the match and limited the Panthers to a .140 attack percentage.

Summer Hale (Galena, Ohio) led ODU with nine kills and 16 assists, while Rachel Billing (Anna, Ohio) had eight kills. Elyse Mongillo (Columbiana, Ohio) recorded a double-double with 12 assists and 15 digs for the Panthers, who fell to 1-4 overall (0-4 GLIAC).

Two service aces from Mongillo to start the first set gave ODU a 2-0 lead, but the Chargers (8-1, 5-0 GLIAC) answered with five straight points, and the Panthers wouldn't draw closer than two points the remainder of the set.

The second set featured 11 ties and five lead changes as Ohio Dominican battled the defending conference champs to the end. Trailing 19-15, ODU scored four straight points, including a block from Shannon Nadler (Leipsic, Ohio) and Tara Winner (Versailles, Ohio) and a kill by Nadler in the middle, to even the score. The teams swapped points until the score was knotted at 23, as Hillsdale scored the final two points to end it.

In the third set, Hillsdale led 10-8 and went on a 6-2 run to earn some breathing room. The Panthers narrowed the deficit to 18-16 on kills by Hale and Emily Post (St. Henry, Ohio), but that was as close as they could get.

ODU closes out its five-match homestand on Sunday as the Panthers play host to Wayne State (Mich.) at 2 p.m. in Alumni Hall.
