Panthers Fall in Home Opener to No.12 Ashland, 2-0

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican men's soccer team hosted Ashland University in their home opener Friday evening at Panther Field, but struggled to find any upset magic, as they suffered their first defeat of the year, falling 2-0.

The Panthers were the aggressors from the early going, but were unable to slow down the Ashland attack throughout much of the first half. A deflected pass from Louis Clark found Kenny Hewitt, who connected from about 10 yards out at the 28:28 mark for the Eagles' first score. Later in the first, Clark found himself on the receiving end as he headed in a lob pass from Adam Spannbauer off an ODU turnover to push Ashland's lead to two.

After the break, Ashland tightened up its defense, thwarting any possible Panther comeback attempts. With the win, the Eagles improve to 5-0-0 on the year, while ODU's drops to 3-1-0.

For the match, ODU finished with nine shots, two shots on goal, while posting a 6-5 advantage on corner kicks.

Up next, the Panthers host Lake Erie College at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, in the second game of an ODU soccer doubleheader at Panther Field. Ashland continues its road trip, traveling to Northern Kentucky for a noon matchup with the Norse on Sunday, Sept. 19.
