Pioneers Shoot Way Past Panthers in Non-Conference Battle

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team grabbed the lead on four different occasions in the second half at home against Malone on Saturday afternoon, but 25-of-45 (55.6 percent) shooting, including 14-of-19 (73.7 percent) by the Pioneers in the second allowed them to escape with the 77-70 road win.

With the win, Malone improves to 4-7 overall, while ODU drops to 1-6 and 1-2 in Alumni Hall.

An 18-4 run through the close of the first half and start of the second, saw the Panthers turn a 31-21 deficit into their largest lead of the game, 39-35, at the 16:15 mark. Five ODU players scored during the stretch, including eight by Tracy Snider (Jr./Lancaster, OH).

The lead would swing back-and-forth four more times over the next 10 minutes with neither team gaining more than a four-point advantage, before the Pioneers grabbed the lead for good, 58-56, with 6:15 left to play. Malone nailed 13-of-14 from the charity stripe over the final 3:45 to ice the victory.

The Pioneers looked as if they were going to put the game out of reach early, building an 11-point lead with 8:18 to play in the first half as the Panthers misfired on 18 of their first 19 shots. However, ODU showed their resiliency hitting 7-of-13 shots over the final eight minutes, capped off by long trey from Snider in the closing seconds, to enter the half down just five, 31-26.

For the second time this season, ODU had four players with 10 or more points. Meredith Fox (Jr./Springboro) paced the Panthers for the second game in a row with a season high 16 points, eclipsing her previous season-best of 14 against Michigan Tech on Thursday. Summer Hale (Sr./Galena, OH) reached double figures for the fourth straight game with 14 points, while Abby Glover (Jr./Centerville, OH) added a season high 11 and Snider finished with 10.

Amy Kittle finished with a game-high 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting for the Pioneers. Allyson Wilson added 16; Sarah VanVoorhis had 13 and Alison Schloz chipped in with 12.

ODU hits the road next week to resume conference play, traveling to Detroit to take on North Division foe, Wayne State at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 16.
