Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team played its final match of the 2010 season Saturday and sent its senior class out with a victory as the Panthers defeated Lake Erie 3-1 (25-7, 21-25, 25-11, 25-20) in a GLIAC match in Alumni Hall.
ODU closed out its season with an 8-19 mark and finished 3-16 playing in the GLIAC South Division. Lake Erie finishes 4-26 (1-18 GLIAC).
The Panthers received strong contributions from all three of its seniors in Heather Kunze, Elyse Mongillo and Cassie Vome. Kunze had three digs and a pair of aces, Mongillo recorded a double-double with 21 assists and 10 digs, and Vome had four kills in nine attempts without an error.
Overall, the Panthers hit .354 for the match, including an astounding .522 in the first set when they recorded 12 kills in 23 attempts without an error. For the match, Rachel Billing had 11 kills, Shannon Nadler tallied 10, and Ashley Sprau and Tara Winner both recorded nine.
Summer Hale finished with seven kills and 23 assists, and Stacy Rogg registered a team-high 20 digs in the victory.
Behind Mongillo's serving, ODU scored the first 11 points of the match and built the lead to 20-3 after Vome's kill en route to their most decisive set victory this season.
After an uneven performance in the second set, the Panthers once again roared out to a huge lead in the third set. The Panthers scored seven of the first eight points and then seven unanswered to take a 17-3 lead. Billing closed the set with a kill to put ODU in front 2-1.
Ohio Dominican built a large cushion in the fourth set as well, taking a 10-3 advantage early. The lead never dipped below four points the remainder of the set.
