Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio - Even though the Ohio Dominican men's soccer already clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming GLIAC Tournament, the team still had a lot at stake in today's game against Northwood (Mich.).
Ensuring the seven seniors go out as winners in their last game at Panther Field, the men came out firing, taking control of the game early with three scores in the game's first 40 minutes.
ODU's first score came in the 22nd minute as a foul inside the box allowed Duncan Campbell (Fr./Hilliard, OH) to connect on a penalty kick for his third score of the year.
Just over seven minutes later at the 28:18 mark, Felix Darko (Jr./Reynoldsburg, OH) found Andrew Edler (So./Hilliard, OH) who beat the keeper low from the left side from about 11 yards out for his third goal this season.
The Panthers added a second insurance goal in the 41st minute as Suma Kargbo (Jr./Freetown, Sierra Leone) nailed a deflected pass from Justin Wheeler (So./Gahanna, OH) to the right far post from 12 yards away for his score of the season.
ODU never lost control after the break, holding the Timberwolves to just one shot on goal in the second half and five for the match as they cruised to the 3-0 victory.
Tyler Gleason (Sr./Grove City, OH) and Dean Dziewit (Fr./Waterford, MI) combined for the shutout in goal, turning away a combined five shots.
Seniors taking part in their last game at Panther Field are Gleason, Pat McGrath (Cincinnati, OH), Liam Fitzgerald (Hudson, OH), Chris Feller (Fairfield, OH), Joe Pissocra (Dublin, OH), AJ Mueller (Dublin, OH) and Chris Curry (Loveland, OH).
With a regular season record of 12-5-1 and 9-2-1 in the GLIAC, the second-seeded Panthers will square off against third-seeded Tiffin in the semi-finals of the GLIAC tournament at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4 at top-seeded Ashland's Ferguson Field. ODU is 1-0-1 against the Dragons this season. The Eagles take on Northwood in the second game on Thursday with the winners meeting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6.
