ODU Comes Up Short in Battle for First Place

Box Score

ASHLAND, Ohio - Looking to avenge an early season 2-0 home loss and move into first place in the GLIAC in a battle of Top 25 schools, the No. 22 Ohio Dominican men's soccer team gave No.16 Ashland everything it could handle, but two second half scores doomed the Panthers as they fell 2-0 at Ferguson Field on Friday evening.

The evenly matched teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half. The Eagles posted a slim 5-4 advantage on shots, but both teams managed two shots on goal.

Just under four minutes into the second half, a penalty in the box allowed Louis Clark to put Ashland up 1-0 with his 12th score of the year.

At the 63:47 mark, the Eagles tacked on their second goal as Danny Lusheck headed in a Mitch Deyhle corner kick from the back post for his first goal of the season.

Despite posting a 6-1 advantage on corners in the second and 7-4 overall, the Panthers could only muster four shots and two shots on goal as they fall four points behind Ashland for the conference lead.

Andrew Edler (So./Hilliard, OH) and Justin Wheeler (So./Gahanna, OH) led ODU, finishing with two shots and one shot on goal apiece.

The Panthers (10-4-1; 7-2-1 GLIAC), up six points in the standings on third place Tiffin, will look to solidify their grasp on second place as they take on Lake Erie at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 24 in the final road game of the season.
