Wheeling Jesuit Edges Panthers in Five Games

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team committed a season high 54 errors as they let a non-conference showdown with Wheeling Jesuit University slip away in five games on Thursday evening. The Panthers, now 9-8 overall on the year, fell 3-2 to the Lady Cards in Wheeling, West Virginia.

The Panthers traded points early in game one, but couldn't pull it out as they fell 29-27. Game two, was another back-and-forth set with ODU coming out on top 25-23. The Lady Cardinals made it 2-1 as they rolled over the Panthers in game three by the score of 25-14. Ohio Dominican again squeaked out a tough win, 26-24, to force a fifth and final game. It was all Jesuit in the deciding game as they held on for a 15-9 victory.

Ohio Dominican's defense once again kept them in the game as the offense remains inconsistent in the still young season. ODU had a total of 54 kills, their second most this season, but 54 errors led to another five game loss for the Panthers. The defense continued to play well as they recorded 103 digs and a season high 25 blocks in the game.

The Panthers had three players in double figure kills on the night yet it was the errors that held ODU's hitting percentage to .000 as a team. Outside hitter Rachel Billing (Jr., Anna, OH) had 16 kills for the Panthers to lead the way for the fifth straight game. Shannon Nadler (Fr., Leipsic, OH) added 11 kills, while Summer Hale (Jr., Galena, OH; pictured) finished the night with 10.
