Ohio Dominican Storms Past Central State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican volleyball team earned their third straight victory on Tuesday as they defeated NCAA Division II Central State University in three games at Beacom-Lewis Gym in Wilberforce, Ohio. With the victory the Panthers improve to 3-1 on the young season.

Ohio Dominican jumped out to an early lead in game one and never looked back as they cruised to a 3-0 victory versus the Marauders on their home floor. The Panthers rolled to a 25-9 victory in the opener and continued to smother the Marauders defense for the straight set victory with back-to-back wins, 25-5.

The Panthers balanced attack was led by outside hitter Kristy Birkemeier (Fr., Columbus Grove, OH; pictured) with six kills. Rachel Billing (Jr., Anna, OH) and Samantha Krieg (Fr., Elida, OH) added five kills apiece. ODU's defense was solid again as they recorded 28 digs and seven blocks, while Summer Hale (So., Galena, OH) ran the Panthers offense to perfection with 20 assists.

Ohio Dominican will return to action this weekend as they travel to Elkins, West Virginia for the Davis & Elkins College Tournament. The Panthers will open the tournament on Friday as they take on the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
