COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team dropped to .500 on the young season with a 68-59 home loss to Cornerstone University Saturday night in Alumni Hall. The Panthers could not find their shooting touch and never recovered from a nine point halftime deficit.
ODU struggled to gain any momentum offensively in the first half and were held to a season low twenty points. The Panther defense was in full strength, but the Golden Eagles still managed to take a lead into the break, 29-20.
The women picked up the tempo offensively shooting a respectable 14-for-35 from the field and 8-for-19 from behind the arc. Unfortunately Cornerstone also began to heat up on the offensive side shooting a blistering 50% (11-for-20) from the field.
Even with the Golden Eagles shooting lights out, the Panthers were able to remain within striking distance for much of the game. Cornerstone however kept the Panthers at bay with an impressive 95.7% shooting performance at the free throw line. The Golden Eagles missed only one free throw for the game, going 22-for-23 and a perfect 17-for-17 in the second half. Melissa Veltkamp paced the Golden Eagles with 20 points while Brooke Carter and Alicia TerHaar had 15 and 12, respectively
ODU had three players score in double figures for the game. Katy Rasor (So./Grove City, OH; pictured) led the way for the Panthers with 17 points. Kirsten Ruen (Sr./Columbus Grove, OH) finished with 16 points and Summer Hale (Jr., Galena, OH) chipped in with 12.
The Panthers drop to 3-3 on the year, while the Golden Eagles improved 3-5. The women return to action on Sunday, November 29th when they travel to Wilberforce, OH to take on former AMC foe Wilberforce University. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
