COLUMBUS , Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's soccer team won their third game of the season, defeating Shawnee State University convincingly, 9-0, on Friday afternoon on Panther Field. The win gives the Panthers their first AMC win of the season.
The Panthers and Bears were both looking for a conference win, but it was the host Panthers who struck early and often as they took command of the game from the outset. ODU scored the games first goal in the 2nd minute when Corey Kirk (Pataskala, OH) scored his first goal of the season off a corner kick delivery from Joey Held (Pataskala, OH). Ohio Dominican struck again in the 6th minute when Held added a goal of his own on a cross from forward Pat McGrath (Cincinnati, OH) to give the Panthers the 2-0 lead. In the 13th minute, the Panthers Chris Feller (Fairfield, OH) scored his first goal of the season off a rebound save from the Shawnee State Goalkeeper Bobby Krauss. ODU added a fourth first half goal in the 43rd minute when Felix Darko (Reynoldsburg, OH) scored his second goal of the year on an assist from Ryan Burton (Westerville, OH).
The second half proved to be all Ohio Dominican as they added five goals to earn the AMC win. McGrath, Jason Hale (Fairfield, OH), Suma Kargbo (Freetown, Sierra Leone) and Zach Roberts (Ashville, OH) all added scores for the Panthers.
Eric Pfiefer (Westerville, OH) and Tyler Gleason (Grove City, OH) each played well, combining for the shutout conference win.
The Panthers, 3-1-1 (1-0), return to action Monday, September 22nd when they will welcome Ashland University to Panther Field for a non-conference match-up. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
