ODU Defeats Indiana – East on Senior Night

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's volleyball team sent their lone senior Jessica Buzenski out on a good note as they defeated Indiana University – East in four games on Thursday night.   With the victory, the Panthers set a new school record, winning their eighth straight match to end the season, their longest winning streak to conclude a regular season.

Ohio Dominican got off to a rocky start in the opening game of the match.   The Panthers finally picked up the pace after a sloppy start to pull away from the Red Wolves and cruised to a 25-13 victory.   Indiana University – East returned the favor in game two as they put together a late rally to take game two, 25-22.   After a wake-up call from veteran coach Sandy Rowley, the Panthers were able to put the Red Wolves away as they won the next two games by the score of 25-18.

The win is the Panthers 22nd of the year and completes the best single season run to end a season in school history.   The Panthers won eight in a row and 12 of their last 13 matches.

In her last game in front of the home crowd at Alumni Hall, senior Jessica Buzenski (Columbus, OH; pictured) didn't disappoint as she lead the Panthers with a game high 18 kills and six blocks.   Joining her in double figures in kills was junior Chelsea Rogers (Botkins, OH) with 17 kills and a game high .375 hitting percentage.

Defensively, the Panthers combined for 97 total digs and 17 blocks on the night.   Sophomore libero Heather Kunze (Cincinnati, OH) led the way with 23 digs, followed by Stacy Rogg (Cincinnati, OH) with 22.

Ohio Dominican will return to action later this month at the American Mideast Conference Tournament.   ODU returns to post season play for the first time in three years and will be a No. 2 seed.   Game times and locations have yet to be determined.
