Panthers Stun Unbeaten Cavaliers in Five

COLUMBUS , Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's volleyball team stunned previously conference unbeaten Walsh University on Tuesday in Alumni Hall with a 3-2 victory.   ODU extended their current winning streak to seven games as they upset the conference leading Cavaliers in a dramatic conference thriller in front of their home crowd in Alumni Hall.

After trading points early in the first game Walsh looked to take the advantage as they went on to a 25-17 victory.   ODU bounced back to knot the match at one game apiece with a 25-19 victory, but the Cavaliers came right back to steal the third with a 25-20 win.   The Panthers hopes of an upset bid stayed alive in the fourth game as they jumped out to a commanding lead and rallied for a 25-12 shellacking.   With momentum on their side the Panthers took a quick lead only to let it slip away in the fifth and final game.   Trailing by three points ODU rallied one more time scoring the next four points to complete the upset with a 16-14 win.

Ohio Dominican finished the night with their best production of the season at the net with four players in double figures in kills.   Junior middle hitter Chelsea Rogers (Botkins, OH), sophomore outside hitter Cassie Vome (Mason, OH) and freshman outside hitter Stacy Rogg (Cincinnati, OH) led the way with 12 kills apiece.   Also combining for a total of 10 kills in the win was senior Jessica Buzenski (Columbus, OH).   But the story of the match was defense for the Panthers as they kept plays alive flying around the court to combine for a total of 79 digs.   Vome finished the night with a team high 19 digs, while Heather Kunze (Cincinnati, OH) added 17 and Rogg had 16.

Sophomore setter Summer Hale (Galena, OH) led the team with 25 assists and had 12 digs herself.   Cassie Schroeder (Columbus Grove, OH) dished out 17 assists along with 11 digs for the Panthers.

ODU (21-10, 11-3) will now return to action on Thursday in their regular season finale as they host Indiana University – East in a non-conference match starting at 7 p.m.
