Cross Country Opens Season With Battle Of Columbus


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Dominican's men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio this Friday, September 1 to compete in the Battle of Columbus to start the 2017 season.

Capital, Columbus State, Ohio Dominican and Otterbein will look to take home top honors at the event. Competition will start at 6:45 p.m. with the men's 5k and the women's race will follow at 7:15 p.m. 

The men's team will look to build from a successful 2016 campaign and returns several of its top runners from last year. Seniors Chad Ellis (Brook Park, Ohio) and Justin Carroll (Berea, Ohio) and junior Wes Pipher (Attica, Ohio) will look to lead this year's men's squad after combining for two top 10 8k and 10k finishes in school history last season.

For the women's squad, senior Jalyn Devereaux (Carroll, Ohio) will look to capitalize this season after posting a strong junior year that included the eighth-fastest 5k time in ODU women's cross country history, and junior Kristen Noecker (Circleville, Ohio) will also look to build on a strong sophomore season in 2016. Senior Capria Hall (Zanesville, Ohio) will look to finish strong in her senior season after recovering from season ending injury in 2016. Hall boasts personal bests of 20:37.3 in the 5k and a 6k time of 24:50.3.

Following the Battle of Columbus meet this Friday, the teams will prepare for the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, September 9 at Liberty Park in Powell, Ohio.
