Ohio Dominican’s Athletic Department honored 60 senior student-athletes and also presented eight individual awards as part of a new format to the Student-Athlete Recognition Night on Monday.
Paced by a pair of freshmen, Ohio Dominican’s men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the 2011 GLIAC Cross Country Championships Saturday morning, hosted by Ashland at the Brookside Golf Course, with the men garnering a 12th place finish and the women taking home 13th.
With the cross country season winding to a close, head coach Paul Benedict sat down with www.ohiodominicanpanthers.com to preview the GLIAC Championships, which is hosted by Ashland University at Brookside Golf Course on Saturday.
Under wet and windy conditions, Ohio Dominican’s women’s cross country team finished 13th out of 26 teams and the men’s squad placed 18th at the Wilmington Fall Classic Friday afternoon.
Competing at the All-Ohio Invitational Friday afternoon, featuring more than 45 Division I, II, III and NAIA schools across the state, Ohio Dominican’s women’s cross country team finished ninth out of 14 Division II/NAIA schools and the men placed ninth out of 16 Division II/NAIA schools.
Ohio Dominican’s women’s cross country team finished 16th out of 22 Division II teams and the men’s squad placed 15th out of 20 at the National Catholic Championships, hosted by the University of Notre Dame Friday afternoon.
Paced by new faces to the program, Ohio Dominican’s men’s and women’s cross country teams put forth another solid effort Saturday morning in their second meet of the young season at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational at Liberty Park.
Led by strong performances from senior Meghan Willeke (Lexington, Ohio) and freshman Michael Barber (New Franklin, Ohio), Ohio Dominican’s cross country teams started the 2011 season with a solid effort at the Otterbein Dual Meet Friday evening.
Head track and field and cross country coach Paul Benedict announced the signing of 35 student-athletes to comprise the first track and field recruiting class in school history. Of that group, nine will also run cross country, which is in its eighth year of existence at ODU.
The Charles School at Ohio Dominican University, in conjunction with the ODU cross country teams, will hold its Third Annual 5K Run/Walk at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 30.
