Volleyball Falters Late Against Cavaliers

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Solid offense carried Ohio Dominican's volleyball team early against Walsh, but the Panthers would fall 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 11-25, 15-25) at home to the Cavaliers in G-MAC play Saturday afternoon.

ODU hit .205 in the opening set and .234 in the second frame, committing just four errors through the first two sets. However, the Panthers were limited to an .071 hitting percentage in the third set, then hit .031 in the fourth.

Freshman Amanda Remmetter (Springfield, Ohio) notched her second double-double in the last three matches as she finished with 10 kills and 10 digs. Classmate Tate Rybarczyk (Avon Lake, Ohio) led all players with 24 digs, while junior Allie Rutter (Fostoria, Ohio) chipped in with 15 digs and matched a season-high with nine assists.

Sophomore Ashton Barr (New Castle, Ind.) hit .304 with eight kills and a team-high 21 assists, and classmate Alexis Young (Gahanna, Ohio) tallied nine kills and nine digs. Freshman Riley Kizer (Mason, Ohio) matched a season-high with six kills and also had a pair of blocks.

The Panthers built leads of 8-3 and 15-10 in the first set, but Walsh went on a 9-1 run to go in front 19-16. ODU drew even at 21 on Remmetter's kill, but the G-MAC East co-leaders finished the set with a 4-1 run to take the lead in the match.

ODU then bounced back in the second set and led virtually throughout. In front 12-8, the Panthers ripped off four straight kills, with two from Barr and one apiece from freshman Zoë Carmichael (Wooster, Ohio) and Remmetter to build a 16-8 cushion, and the lead never dipped below six the remainder of the frame.

The Cavaliers, though, would limit ODU to just 14 total kills over the final two sets while putting up 31 themselves in that stretch.

Ohio Dominican will participate in the Midwest Region Crossover on Friday and Saturday, with opponents and start times to be announced later this weekend.
