COLUMBUS, Ohio – A mammoth 15-1 run in the fourth set helped lift Ohio Dominican's volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-19, 20-25, 26-24, 25-23) win over Walsh Friday night in GLIAC action from Alumni Hall.

That burst helped the Panthers erase a 5-0 deficit in the set, and ODU then held off a late Walsh run to close out the Cavaliers.

ODU improved to 13-16 on the year (7-10 GLIAC), while Walsh fell to 5-22 (2-15 GLIAC).

Four players had 10 or more kills, led by Brianna Reder (Maineville, Ohio) with 15 terminations. Sophomore Lauren Kraemer (Kettering, Ohio) added 12, freshman Jackie Oestreich (Brighton, Mich.) totaled 11 and junior Lauren Rindler (Rossburg, Ohio) chipped in with 10 kills and a team-high 21 digs.

Freshman Heidi Hess (Dayton, Ohio) also notched a double-double with 25 assists and 15 digs, sophomore Kelsey Fortney (Lorain, Ohio) had 18 assists and freshman Megan Hendershot (Galloway, Ohio) tallied 17 digs.

ODU came out strong in the first set, scoring the first three points and eventually taking a 12-6 lead. Leading 14-12, the Panthers went on a 6-1 run to take control, capped off by Kraemer's kill, and grabbed a 1-0 lead in the match.

The second set featured nine ties and four lead changes, but it was Walsh that went on a late run, breaking free from a 19-19 tie with four straight points to even the match at a set apiece.

It appeared as though Walsh would take the lead in the match as they grabbed a 10-5 lead in the third set and stayed in front 21-19 late. ODU tied it at 22 on an ace by senior Bailey Barker (Muncie, Ind.), and Reder and Kraemer teamed up on a block to make it 23-22 in favor of ODU.

The teams exchanged points, but with the set tied at 24, a Walsh hitting error and a kill by Rindler sealed the third set for ODU.

Walsh bolted to a 5-0 lead in the fourth frame on five consecutive ODU hitting errors, but the Panthers rallied. Reder stopped the bleeding with consecutive kills, and ODU scored six straight points to take a 6-5 lead.

After a Walsh kill, ODU ripped off the next nine points of the set, sprinkling in three kills, an ace, a pair of blocks and several Cavalier errors to go in front 15-6. The Panthers were in front 17-9 before Walsh tallied five straight to get back into the set, and the Cavaliers drew within one point on several occasions late before Oestreich and sophomore Courtney Braun (Hilliard, Ohio) combined on a block in the middle to end the match in ODU's favor.

The Panthers conclude the 2013 regular season at 2 p.m. Saturday against Malone.
