PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – Ohio Dominican women's soccer claimed a 2-0 victory over the Ursuline Arrows on Thursday afternoon in Pepper Pike, Ohio. The victory improves the Panthers record to 7-4 (5-2) as the curtain begins to close on the 2019 road schedule.
Both teams began the game evenly matched, trading chances though out the first half.
ODU freshman goalkeeper Cecilia Kuntz (Berlin, Ohio) collected six saves in the opening half, and added seven stops in the second half for a career-high 13 saves on the afternoon.
Forward Mari Silvestri (Solon, Ohio) found the scoresheet for the Panthers in the 19th minute burying her lone shot on target. The sophomore forward gathered a through ball from junior Samantha Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and finished her opportunity from the near side of the penalty area to claim a 1-0 lead.
Buck added a goal of her own just 106 seconds after the intermission. The junior forward pounced on a rebound created by Arrows goalkeeper Gina Cerny. Buck's quick reactions allowed her to gather the rebound and slot it past the diving goalkeeper to her right.
The Panthers received another quality defensive performance from Cheyenne Story (Canfield, Ohio), Hannah Knobloch (Hilliard, Ohio), and Morgan Reeb (Canal Winchester, Ohio). The trio combined to snuff out several key Ursuline attacks and allowed the freshmen Kuntz to make several comfortable saves.
ODU concludes its road schedule with a trip to Lake Erie College on Saturday, October 19. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
