COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican women's soccer team defeated Alderson Broaddus by the score of 8-0 on Thursday evening. The victory is the third in a row for the Panthers and improves their record to 5-3 (3-1).
Thursday's win marks the most goals at home since a 13-0 win versus Salem International (10/11/16) and also is the sixth time in program history that the Black & Yellow have scored at least eight goals in a contest.
ODU outshot AB 32-0 and held a 15-0 advantage in corner kicks on the evening. The Panthers found the scoresheet in the 18th minute when midfielder Lindsay Buten (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored her first collegiate goal. The midfielder took a lofted shot off of a corner that bounced off the post and past Battlers goalkeeper Gillian Tinney to open the scoring.
In the 38th minute, midfielder Emily Wittekind (Cincinnati, Ohio) doubled the ODU advantage. The first-year midfielder hit a one-time shot off a cross from Makenna Greer (Pickerington, Ohio) to give the Panthers a 2-0 advantage before heading into the halftime intermission.
Coming out of the break ODU quickly found the scoresheet once again. Midfielder Katlyn Jamiel (Wilmington, Ohio) headed a Samantha Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) corner kick into the net to advance the lead to 3-0.
Jamiel picked up an assist 15 minutes later as her through ball found midfielder Taylor Rankin (Dearborn, Michigan) behind the defense and one on one with the goalkeeper. She unleashed a shot, beating the AB keeper to her left and increasing the lead to 4-0.
The Panthers struck again 43 seconds later as forward Lindsey Sullivan (Marysville, Ohio) received a pass from midfielder Hallie Fryman (Galloway, Ohio) that led to another one on one opportunity against the AB keeper. Sullivan finished her chance, sneaking her shot under the crossbar for a 5-0 advantage.
Wittekind collected her second goal of the evening in the 70th minute, hitting in a cross from forward Mari Silvestri (Solon, Ohio) to increase the lead to 6-0.
Midfielder Meghan Renius (Lambertville, Michigan) also collected her first collegiate goal Thursday evening. She finished a cross from Shelby Shotton (Marion, Illinois) that skipped through forward Molly Van Horn (Granville, Ohio) and into the back of the net.
The goals from Renius and Buten give Ohio Dominican six first time goal scorers this season.
Shotton collected another assist in the 82nd minute as forward Gabrielle Jones (Lima, Ohio) touched the winger's pass around the AB goalkeeper Tinney to seal the 8-0 for the Panthers.
