COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Currently riding a five match winning streak, the Ohio Dominican women's soccer team will look to continue their recent success as they host Walsh this weekend.
The Panthers are coming off one of the biggest wins since the program's inception in 2000, defeating then No. 3 Grand Valley State 1-0 this past Friday night on the road. The win was the first win over a ranked opponent since joining the GLIAC. This season the Panthers are 1-0-1 against ranked teams. ODU kept the momentum going as they defeated Malone on Sunday by a final score of 4-2.
Senior Jordan Mazzi (Sunbury, OH) recorded the game winner in the GVSU match and added another goal in the Malone match as she earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Mazzi has been an offensive sparks with three goals and one assist during the current five match winning streak.
Junior Lauren Pratt (West Chester, OH) added to her career goal mark with one against Malone. Pratt and Mazzi each rank inside the top 10 all-time in goals scored at ODU.
Blake leads with five goals scored and a total of 12 points. Blake is also tied for the team lead with two assists. Her five goals is ranked 14th in the GLIAC.
Mazzi ranks 10th in the conference with a total of 43 shots. Among those in the top 10 in shots, she ranks fourth in shots on goal percentage.
As a team, ODU ranks fourth in the GLIAC in goals against average with a mark of 0.76. The Panther defense along with the three goalkeepers has given ODU a shutout percentage of .500, ranking tied for 46th nationally.
Walsh (Friday, October 24)
Walsh comes into the week with a mark of 7-4-2 overall, while holding a 4-1-3 record in the GLIAC. The Cavaliers have lost just once in their past five matches, and recently tied nationally rank Saginaw Valley.
Walsh has three juniors which have at least 10 points this season. Kristi Conti leads the offensive attack with 18 points on eight goals and two assists. Jessie Gearhart also has eight goals for the Cavaliers.
This will be the 13th meeting all time between ODU and Walsh, with the Panthers holding a 10-2 record. Currently the Black and Gold are riding a seven match winning streak against Walsh, including a 4-1 victory at Walsh last season.
The Panthers and Cavaliers are scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. on Friday at Panther Stadium.
