Women's Soccer Back at Home, Host Findlay and Tiffin

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Panther women's soccer team will return to the friendly confines of Panther Stadium this weekend as they host Findlay and Tiffin.

Weekly Recap

After a weekend in the Upper Peninsula, the Panthers are off to their best five match conference start since joining the GLIAC. Overall, ODU holds a 6-3-1 record, with a 3-1-1 GLIAC mark. This past Friday the Panthers dropped their first conference match of the season ending their unbeaten streak at six. ODU received a goal from freshman Allison Pavlik (Cortland, OH) in the 11th minute to give the Panthers the lead. The Huskies scored two goals in the second half to hand ODU a 2-1 loss.

The Panthers bounced back on Sunday as they fought back to defeat Northern Michigan by a final score of 3-2. Senior Jordan Mazzi (Galena, OH) scored the first goal, and added the assist on the game winner scored by freshman Ashley Blake (Hilliard, OH) in double overtime. Sophomore Kethryn Mattingly (Beavercreek, OH) scored on a penalty kick in the second half to tie the match at 2-2.

GLIAC Ranks

Blake now ranks 10th in the GLIAC in goals scored with four. She also is tied for first in the GLIAC and 15th nationally in game winning goals with three. Junior Amanda Fowler (Mansfield, OH) is tied for fourth in game winning goals with two. Mazzi also finds herself in the top 10 in the GLIAC in shots with 32 on the season.

Freshman Kelsey Harris (Mason, OH) has logged the most minutes of any GLIAC goalkeeper so far this season and she ranks fourth in the conference in goals against average, with a mark of 0.79.

The Panthers rank fourth as a team in goals with 17. ODU is getting lots of opportunities at the net as they are second in shots (193) and shots per game (19.3).

Findlay (Friday, October 10)

The Oilers have played only three conference matches so far this season and hold a 3-1 record. Findlay holds a 6-3-0 record overall on the season winning two of their last three matches. Two seniors lead the offensive attack for Findlay in Erin Weber and Danielle Hart. Weber has three goals and three assists for a team high nine points. Hart leads the team in goals with four.

ODU and UF have met seven times in the past with the Panthers holding a 2-2-3 record against the Oilers. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw last season after 110 minutes of action.

Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Panthers Stadium.

Tiffin (Sunday, October 12)

The Panthers will host Tiffin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. This will be the 13th meeting all time between the two schools with Tiffin holding a decisive advantage in the series, as ODU holds a 1-9-2 record against Tiffin. 

Tiffin comes into the week with a 2-8-0 record overall, and a 1-3 mark in the GLIAC. Svetlana Gudenkova leads the Dragons with eight points. Gudenkova has scored three goals and has added two assists on the season.
