Panthers Look to Continue Their Success

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team will look to build on its momentum from last week as conference play starts this weekend.

Weekly Recap

The Panthers are coming off two 3-0 victories over Cedarville and Lee University. ODU was able to get the offense going, and saw plenty of firsts from the freshmen players. Forward, Ashely Blake (Hilliard, OH) scored her first goal of the season against Cedarville. She also added an assist in that game, as well as, one in the Lee game this past Sunday. Her play has earned her GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Blake is now tied for the team lead in points with four. She is also tied for third in the GLIAC with two assists.

Goalkeeper Kelsey Harris (Mason, OH) logged her first collegiate shutouts this weekend, saving all 11 shots targeted at the net, as she was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week. Harris now has a season goals against average of 0.74, and has made 15 saves, which ranks fifth in the conference.

Freshman Allison Pavlik (Cortland, OH) added her first goal for the Panthers with a header off a corner kick against Lee.

Sophomore Kelly Johnson (Berea, OH) is tied with Blake with four points on the season after she scored twice in the 3-0 win over Lee. Johnson and Blake are tied for fourth in the GLIAC in points.

GLIAC Ranks

As a team, the Panther offense has work its way up into the top half of the conference in almost all categories. ODU ranks in the top three in three offensive categories including, shots (70), goals (7), and shots per game (17.5). The team also ranks fourth in assists with four. The Panthers have also been one of the most discipline teams on the pitch as they are one of four teams in the GLIAC that have not recorded a yellow or red card this season.

Alderson-Broaddus (Tuesday, September 16)

ODU and Alderson-Broaddus have met twice in the past, with the Panthers winning both times. The two squads met last season in Phillipi, West Virginia, when ODU defeated the Battlers by a score of 1-0.

This season the Battlers are 0-1-0 overall losing their only match to Ashland last week by a score of 2-1. Senior Olivia Augustine scored the lone goal for Alderson-Broaddus.

Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16 at Panther Stadium.

Ashland (Sunday, September 21)

The Panthers and Eagles have seen each other play this season already as Ashland was a participant in the ODU Invitational two weeks ago. The Eagles are off to a fast start as they have an unbeaten record of 3-0-0. The Eagles and Panthers will have three common opponents after Tuesday, as Ashland has defeated Southern Indiana, Tusculum, and Alderson-Broaddus already.

Ashland is led by freshman Morgan Bittengle. Bittengle has recorded one goal and one assist thus far. She also leads the team in shot attempts with 13. Senior Kathleen Demaree has also added one goal and one assist for the Eagles as she has come off the bench in all three games.

This will be the eighth meeting all-time between the two squads. ODU holds the advantage currently with a record of 4-1-2, including a 5-0 win at Ashland last season. The two teams will square off in Ashland, Ohio on Sunday, September 21 at 1:00 p.m.
