Soccer Teams Release 2012 Spring and Fall Slates

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Head coaches Willy Merrick and Jonathan Meade recently finalized the upcoming spring and fall schedules for the Ohio Dominican men's and women's soccer programs.

Along with an always challenging GLIAC schedule in the fall that includes newcomers Malone, Notre Dame and Walsh and some testing non-conference matchups, both teams face a taxing spring slate with a combined nine Division I opponents on the docket.

The men have eight contests scheduled for this spring, all at Panther Field, beginning on March 22 versus Ohio Northern. Two days later, the Panthers take on Kenyon and St. Josephs (Ind.) in a round-robin that also includes Tiffin. The following Saturday, ODU welcomes Division I foes Bowling Green, Marshall and Northern Kentucky for a four-team, six-game setup that pits each squad against one another in 45 minute games.

"With the quality of competition we will face, especially from the caliber of Division I squads, we will no doubt be a stronger, more well-rounded team come this fall," said coach Merrick. "We may take a few lumps, but our guys are more than excited to step up to the challenge."

The Panthers conclude the season the second weekend of April with their annual Alumni Game on Friday, April 6 followed by a collision with Big Ten runner-up Ohio State at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 15.

On the women's side, the 2011 GLIAC South Division Champs kick off the spring campaign on March 24 at Akron with a three-team round robin against the Zips and Canisius (N.Y.), followed with a trip to Mid-American Conference East Division Champion Kent State on March 31.

ODU hosts its lone home game on April 15 against Denison, before returning to the road to take on Horizon League foe Wright State on April 21 in the spring finale.

"The spring is used to challenge and stretch us for the future. Playing the quality teams that we have on schedule is exactly what we need to make us better," said coach Meade. "The 2012 schedule will be very intense and the spring will really help prepare us to reach our goals next fall."
