BAY CITY, Mich. - Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team was selected to finish second in the South Division in the 2011 GLIAC Women's Soccer Preseason Poll, as voted on by the head coaches.
Tiffin took the top spot in the South Division with 16 points and four first-place votes, while the Panthers collected 12 points, including the final first place vote. Ashland and Findlay tied for third with nine points apiece and Lake Erie rounded out the division in fifth position with four points.
Two-time defending NCAA national champion and six-time defending GLIAC champion Grand Valley State (Mich.) collected five of the six first place votes and 25 points to easily out distance Northern Michigan for first place in the North Division.
ODU, along with 13 newcomers, returns seven starters and 14 letterwinners from a team that finished 11-4-3 overall and third in the conference with a 7-4-3 mark.
The Panthers have two scrimmages, beginning tonight at 7 p.m. at Denison, before they open the season against Drury (Mo.) at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2 at the UIndy Classic in Indianapolis.
