Second Half Slips Away As Women's Basketball Falls To #2 Ashland

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team trailed No. 2 Ashland by just three at the break, but the visiting Eagles pulled away to take a 94-74 victory over ODU in Alumni Hall on Saturday afternoon.

Junior guard Alexa Fisher (Powell, Ohio) led four Panthers in double figures with 19 points as she hit 5-of-7 from beyond the arc and 7-of-10 from the field overall. Junior guard Hannah Clark (Glenmont, Ohio) scored 13 points with seven boards and sophomore guard Angela Troyer (Sugarcreek, Ohio) also scored 13 points with five rebounds. Sophomore forward Olivia Fox (Newark, Ohio) added 10 points with seven rebounds.

Ashland jumped to a 14-6 lead in the first quarter, but the Panthers kept the Eagles within reach as freshman Aubriana Bellard (Middletown, Ohio) made a layup on a feed from Clark to make it 21-17 to end the period.

The Eagles bumped their lead out to 37-27 midway through the second quarter, but the Panthers answered with an 11-2 run to close within 39-38, before Ashland made a bucket before the halftime buzzer to take a 41-38 lead at the break.

Ashland would then outscore ODU 29-16 in the third quarter to take a double digit lead, and had a 24-20 margin in the fourth quarter as well.

Senior Alexis Overly (Chillicothe, Ohio) and freshman Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) each had five assists to lead ODU, with Overly also swatting three shots.

Ohio Dominican (1-1) hits the road for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff at Glenville State on Wednesday.
