AKRON, Ohio – All but one run scored against the Panthers was scored with two outs as Ohio Dominican's softball team was swept out of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament with a 4-1 loss to Hillsdale in game one and a 7-2 loss to Cedarville in the elimination game at Firestone Stadium in Akron.
In game one, Hillsdale would take advantage of a Panther error that allowed an unearned run to score in the third inning that broke a scoreless tie.
ODU would answer in the bottom half of the fifth as Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) squeezed home Rolon with one out but the Panthers would leave the bases loaded without scoring another run.
Hillsdale would then strike for three runs in the bottom of the sixth scoring all three with two outs.
The Panthers outhit the Chargers 11-10 but left 11 baserunners on throughout the game.
Freshman Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) took the loss in game one throwing 5.2 innings giving up four runs, three earned, on nine hits with two strikeouts.
In game two, Cameron Barber had a no-hitter through 4.2 innings before Cedarville struck for four straight hits that brought in four runs.
ODU answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half as Brooklyn Rayburn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) singled to left field and brought around Rolon and Keirah Smetzer (Ashland, Ohio). Cedarville would add three more runs all with two outs in the 7th.
ODU now awaits the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, May 6th as they sat 8th in the region heading into the week and currently have a 32-22 record overall and finished 21-5 in the conference.
