COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's softball team swept Findlay by final scores of 5-2 and 9-4 Wednesday evening in Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest at Panther field.
Junior Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) once again led the offense with two hits in each game along with two RBI's in each game. Senior Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) had a pair of hits on the afternoon while matching Slider with a pair of RBI's in each game.
Freshman Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) got the win in game one as she allowed two runs on just three hits with eight strikeouts. Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) started game two and earned a no decision while senior Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) earned her first win of the year pitching the last 3.1 and not allowing a baserunner.
After a pair of scoreless innings to begin game one, ODU was able to break through for a pair of runs in the third inning. Brooklyn Rayburn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) was able to score on a wild pitch and Slider doubled to left center to score Kierah Smetzer (Ashland, Ohio).
Findlay was able to get a run back in the fourth and ODU broke the game open with three runs in the fifth.
Slider squeezed home Smetzer who reached on an error and a Mix double in the left center gap brought around Slider and Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) as ODU took a 5-1 lead into the sixth.
Findlay would get a run in the sixth with no one out but Long sat down the next six batters to earn the complete game win.
In game two, Findlay would strike first with a two run home run but ODU would quickly answer and gain the lead in the bottom half.
Hackerd led off the ODU order with a solo home run that snuck inside the right field foul pole. Later in the inning, Mix laced her home run that wrapped around the left field pole that also scored Slider putting ODU up 3-2 into the second.
After a scoreless second for both teams, Bales would hit a solo home run to left center that put the Panthers up 4-2 into the fourth.
Findlay would tie the game in their top half of the fourth before ODU would break the game open with five runs in the bottom half of the fourth.
Rayburn laid a bunt down that was able to get past the pitcher and score Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) from second for ODU to regain the lead. Bales then reached on an error by the center fielder that scored Rayburn putting ODU up 6-4. Slider would then clear the bases with a double down the left field line and came around to score on a Barber triple down the left field line.
Lamping would then shut the door on Findlay retiring the last 10 batters of the contest which included four assists on grounders back to her.
ODU (13-13, 4-0) continues conference play as they travel to Hillsdale on Saturday, March 23 with games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
