Men's Soccer Earns Shutout of Walsh at Home

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team earned their second shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over Walsh in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action at Panther Stadium Thursday night.

Freshman goalkeeper Russell Montemarano (Westerville, Ohio) recorded all eight saves on the shots he faced earning his first career shutout. The Panther goalkeeper had four saves in each half to earn the clean sheet.

A scoreless first half saw the Panthers outshoot the Cavaliers 11-8 with the Panthers having just two shots on goal compared to the Cavs four.

The Panthers were able to get on the board mid-way through the second half as freshman Khalif Hassan (Columbus, Ohio) ripped a 30-yard shot that deflected off a Cavalier defender and found the left corner of the net in the 57th minute.

The Panthers were able to maintain their defense throughout the second half and were able to double their lead in the 77th minute. A pair of sophomores linked up to score as Cooper Johnson (Urbana, Ohio) sent a cross in that found Amadou Mamadou (Columbus, Ohio) where he converted past the Cavalier goalkeeper.

The Panthers had the advantage in corner kicks on the evening by a total of 8-to-6 with seven of the eight coming in the first half for ODU.

With the win, ODU advances to 4-9-1 and 2-8-1 in the conference while Walsh drops to 8-4-2 overall and 4-4-2 in the G-MAC.

ODU is back in action as they host Malone on Saturday, October 26 with kickoff once again set for 5 p.m.
