Men's Soccer Scores Season-High Five Goals in Win Over Salem

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team defeated Salem International by a final score of 4-3 in their final non-conference contest of the season Thursday night inside Panthers Stadium.

Freshman forward Khalif Hassan (Columbus, Ohio) led the way for the Panther offense with a pair of goals including the game-winner in the 77th minute.

The Panthers came out of the gate with a flurry as Hassan found the back of the net on a cross from fellow freshman Chase Hamrick (New Albany, Ohio) in the sixth minute. That marks Hamrick's first point of his collegiate career.

Just after the Panther goal, a foul in the box allowed Salem to step to the spot for a penalty kick which freshman goalkeeper Russell Montemarano (Westerville, Ohio) stopped both that shot and the rebound shot directly after.

The game would remain 1-0 in favor of the Panthers until Salem would tie the game at 1-1 on a penalty kick in the 38th minute. Just 13 seconds later the Panthers would answer as sophomore Carter Patchett (Dublin, Ohio) found junior River Allbaugh (Pickerington, Ohio) at the top of the box and he converted his fourth goal of the season to regain the lead at 2-1.

A foul in the box in the 42nd minute from Salem allowed sophomore Amadou Mamadou (Columbus, Ohio) to step to the spot where he converted to passed the right side of the Tiger goalkeeper to put the Panthers up 3-1 late in the half.

Just before the teams went into the half, Salem would get a breakaway goal in the 45th minute to send the teams into halftime with ODU leading 3-2.

Salem would knot the game up at 3-3 quickly in the second half scoring in the 48th minute.

The game would remain tied until a Mamadou high pass found the right foot of Hassan as he finished passed the Tiger goalkeeper in the right corner of the goal.

The Panthers would add insurance in the 83rd minute when a foul in the box from the Tigers allowed junior Jaxson Szabo (Worthington, Ohio) to step to the spot where he would finish his penalty kick for his eighth goal of the season.

Montemarano finished his first collegiate game with five saves on eight shots earning his first win between the posts.

The Panthers are back in action on Sunday, October 20 as they travel to Painesville for a matchup with #5 Lake Erie with kickoff set for 4 p.m.
