COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican men's soccer team were defeated in overtime by Ohio Valley 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Ohio Dominican to 2-5-1 (1-2-1) on the year.

Ohio Valley opened the scoring early on in the contest. Forward Juan Hoyos converted a penalty kick in the sixth minute after the Panthers were whistled for a handball in the box. Both teams traded chances throughout the remainder of first half but neither team could capitalize heading into the locker room for the halftime break.

The Panthers began the second half on the front foot, challenging OVU goalkeeper Stevens Valez. Freshman forward Khalif Hassan (Columbus, Ohio) finally broke through in the 54th minute.

The first year forward received a pass from midfielder Jonathan Lang (Amelia, Ohio) and was in behind the defense for a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper. Hassan took the ball and buried his opportunity to tie the game at 1-1.

In the 78th minute ODU claimed its first lead of the contest. A foul by Fighting Scots defender Cristian Gutierrez gifted the Panthers a penalty kick. Defender Jaxon Szabo (Worthington, Ohio) stepped up and beat the diving goalkeeper to his right to extend the Panther lead to 2-1.

OVU would answer in the 83rd minute as Javier Martin struck on the counter-attack sending his shot into the side netting of the goal past Panthers goalkeeper Aiden Genette (Macomb, Michigan) to bring the game level at 2-2.

Neither side could claim an advantage and overtime would be needed to decide a winner.

In the 92nd minute a quick counter attack by the Fighting Scots yielded the game-winning goal. Hugo Kadima received a through ball from Luiz Neto and finished the opportunity, lifting OVU over the Panthers 3-2.

Ohio Dominican returns to action on Thursday October 10th at Tiffin University. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
